Dear Fellow Travelers,

Michigan is widely known for its magnificent and ever changing seasons.  The fabulous Fall colors are a witness to God’s artistic and creative nature.  The pure white crystal of a cold Winter morning begs for exploration and appreciation.  We’ve just experienced the most glorious Spring with flora and fauna witnessing to the new life bursting forth once again.

And now we welcome a new season!  Some might call it Summer.   But those of us who travel anywhere in the city or in the state call it something else – the Orange season.  This is the season of orange barrels going up, blocking our normal paths to work or play.  This is the season of waiting for our turn as lanes are closed and vehicles wait in line for what seems an unending and confusing schedule of road construction.

As we travel and wait, or find new routes to take around the construction zones, why not take the time to talk with God.  You are under construction as well.  Things are changing in your life in all kinds of ways, emotionally, financially, physically, and of course spiritually.

So rather than take a spiritual detour to places unknown, why not talk with God about your life and the mission to which God is calling you in the next decade of your life!  Rather than railing against yet one more traffic delay – consider it a blessing that you have now been given the time to listen and talk with God about what’s changing in your life.

While we give a sigh of relief each time the Orange Season ends, we do appreciate the efforts to improve the highways and byways of Michigan.  And while we can feel relief that a stressful time in our life is coming to an end, we can also appreciate the growth that God has provided if we’ve taken the time to let God guide and nurture us in our own ‘construction season’.

May God richly bless you as you travel this Summer.  And may the construction zones that you encounter become a blessing rather than a roadblock for your life.

See you in church,
